Prof. Jean Chambaz

Jean Chambaz is Honorary Professor of Cell Biology Sorbonne University. After earning an M.D. (1978) and a PhD (1988) from Université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC), and occupying a visiting scientist position at Boston University (1989), he was hired professor at the UPMC Faculty of Medicine in 1992. Jean Chambaz served as Director of a joint Inserm-UPMC research unit (1999-2007), then Deputy Director of the Cordeliers Research Centre (2007-2012); Head of the Endocrine Biochemistry Department at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital (2005-2012); founding Director of the UPMC Doctoral Training Institute (2005-2009). He was elected Vice President for Research (2006-2011), then President of UPMC (2012-2017). He founded Sorbonne University of which he was the first President (2018- 2021). He was also Chair of the Council for Doctoral Education of the European University Association (EUA) (2008-2011); member of the Board of EUA (2015-2018); President of the Coordination of French Intensive Research Universities

Prof. Montserrat Castelló

Montserrat Castelló is a Full Professor and Director of the Research Institute on Psychology, Learning and Development at Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona, Spain, where she has previously served as Vice Dean of Research and Doctoral Studies. She leads the Interuniversity Research Seminar on Identity & New Trajectories in Education, a team awarded by the Catalan government. She has been elected member of the executive committee of the European Association of Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) (2013-2015), and of the executive committee of the European Federation of Psychology Teachers Associations (EFPTA) (2003 - Act.). She is also an elected numerary member of the Institute of Catalan Studies (IEC), the Scientific Academy of Catalonia. She founded and was the co-convenor of the EARLI Special Interest Group on Researcher Education and Careers (SIG-REaC) and organised the first conference held in Barcelona in 2014. Moreover, she is the director of the interinstitutional doctoral program in Educational Psychology at the URL and membership of the URL Doctoral Board and the Ethics Committee. Her research activity and publications focus on research writing, early career and doctoral education, and researcher identity development.

Johannes Moes

Johannes Moes, political scientist by training, actually participated in the Salzburg seminar 2005 from which the Salzburg principles emerged, as an Early Stage Researcher representing the German Researchers trade union GEW. Only 13 years later, in 2017, he became a professional in doctoral education and is since then head of doctoral and postdoctoral services in the Center for Junior Scholars at TU Berlin. He has contributed to the first National Report on Junior Scholars in Germany 2008 and since 2002 a vivid interest in learning about doctoral reforms in other higher education systems in Europe and beyond, also at the PRIDE Masterclasses in Dubrovnik.

Toby Erik Wikström, PhD

Toby Erik Wikström holds appointments at the Graduate School and the Faculty of Languages and Cultures at the University of Iceland. At the Graduate School, he leads the professional development programs for early career researchers and PhD supervisors. Before arriving at the University of Iceland, he completed a PhD in French at Columbia University and taught at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Prof. Dorothy Kelly

Dorothy Kelly is a professor of Translation at the University of Granada (Spain), where she was also Vice Rector for Internationalization from 2008 to 2023. She was Chair of the Executive Board of the Coimbra Group of Universities from 2010 until 2017 and was a member of Spain's national Bologna Experts Team from 2010 to 2013. She was a member of the Board of the Committee for Internationalization and Development Cooperation at the Spanish Rectors’ Conference between 2008 and 2023. She is a member of the Advisory Group on Higher Education to the Steering Committee for Education (CDEDU) of the Council of Europe. Since 2018, she has been the coordinator of Arqus, one of the first 17 European University Alliances to be approved by the European Commission and composed by the universities of Graz, Leipzig, Lyon 1, Maynooth, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wrocław, along with Granada.

Prof. Bjørn Stensaker

Bjørn Stensaker is a professor of higher education and the current vice-rector education at University of Oslo. His educational background is in Political Science (MA) at University of Oslo, and he holds a PhD from the University of Twente in the Netherlands on organizational transformations in higher education institutions. He is professor at the Faculty of Educational Science at University of Oslo since 2010. Adjunct position as a research professor at NIFU - The Nordic Institute for Innovation, Research and Education, Oslo.

Dr Karen Clegg

Karen is Reader in Doctoral Education in the School for Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of York. She is Co-PI/Director of the Next Generation Research SuperVision Project (RSVP) is a £4.6million, Research England funded project designed to transform the practice and culture of research supervision. Working with 58 research organisations and global businesses RSVP is believed to be the largest collaborative, cross-disciplinary, translational research project into doctoral education ever funded. Karen has been actively involved in researcher development for over 25 years and designed programmes for GTAs, Fellows and Research Leaders at the University of York. She has published on assessment and reflective practice in HE and doctoral education. She is an elected executive member of several professional bodies, a trained coach and an accomplished conference speaker.

Vicent Botella-Soler, PhD

With a background in physics and neuroscience, Vicent has acquired extensive international experience both in academia as a researcher, and in industry as tech consultant and manager. He is now co-director of Dickerson et al. (www.dickersonetal.com), a consultancy company focused on the mental health and well-being of academics that provides training, online resources, and consulting services to academic institutions worldwide. He specializes in critical thinking and decision-making for individuals and teams. His latest book on the cognitive biases that influence our decisions is the upcoming Why do we think what we think? (co-written with Javier López Alós and published in Spanish as ¿Por qué pensamos lo que pensamos? - Arpa Editores, Barcelona, 2025)

Prof. Manuel Heitor

Manuel Heitor is Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, IST, the engineering school of the Technical University of Lisbon, www.ist.utl.pt, and was the founding director of IN+, the Center for Innovation, Technology and Policy Research at IST. From November 2015 to March 2022 he served as Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education in the Government of Portugal and from March 2005 to June 2011 he served as Secretary of State for Science, Technology and Higher Education. Overall, he served more than 12,5 years in the Government of Portugal. In 2022 he received the Honorary Doctor in Science and Technology from Carnegie Mellon University and was nominated “IST distinguished Professor”. He is a Honorary Member of the European Academy of Cancer Sciences, EACS, and a Corresponding Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Spain. He is the chair and lead author of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (European Commission) report "Align Act Accelerate. Research, Technology and Innovation to boost European Competitiveness"

Laura Flynn

Laura Flynn is Head of Partnerships at Quality and Qualifications Ireland and a member of QQI’s Executive Management Team. The Partnerships Division includes the communications and stakeholder engagement functions and oversees significant projects QQI leads and partners on including the National Framework for Doctoral Education Advisory Forum (NFDE AF), the National Academic Integrity Network (NAIN) and the Global Academic Integrity Network (GAIN), the National Student Engagement Programme (NStEP), and a programme to promote engagement between professional, statutory and regulatory bodies and higher education institutions (Finding Common Ground). Laura is co-chair of the National Framework for Doctoral Education Advisory Forum, which is co-chaired by QQI and the Higher Education Authority (HEA) in Ireland. She is a member of the steering committees of NAIN and NStEP and is one of two Irish representatives of the Council of Europe’s ETINED platform. She oversees QQI’s statutory responsibilities regarding monitoring and reporting on the advertisement of contract cheating services and is currently finalising QQI’s academic integrity policy. The stakeholders Laura works with include both national and international representatives from the tertiary education sector including Ireland’s Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, higher and further education providers, funding bodies, state agencies, student representatives, international quality assurance agencies (including QAA and the Australian agency, TEQSA), representative bodies and other organisations supporting students. Laura holds a MSc in Strategic Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Arts in Training and Education and a BA (International) in German and Sociology.

Prof. Joao Amaro de Matos

Joao Amaro de Matos is Vice-Rector of Nova University of Lisbon, responsible since 2017 for its international development and education policy, João is a Full Professor of Finance at the Nova School of Business and Economics, where he joined in 1995. He served as Associate Dean for International Development for 13 years and directed its Doctoral Programs. Holding a Ph.D. in Physics (1988) from the University of São Paulo and a Ph.D. in Management (1995) from INSEAD, he has been a visiting researcher at the University of Heidelberg, the London School of Economics, and MIT, among others, regularly teaching in various countries. He has authored more than 50 scientific papers, two reference books, and has supervised numerous Master’s and Doctoral theses in the fields of Finance, Economics, and Management.

Cláudia S. Sarrico

Cláudia S. Sarrico is a policy analyst and project lead at the OECD Science, Technology, and Innovation Directorate, where she manages the Research and Innovation Careers Observatory (ReICO) project. Previously, she managed the OECD Global Science Forum projects on Reducing the Precarity of Academic Research Careers and Promoting Diverse Career Pathways of Doctoral and Postdoctoral Researchers. Before joining the OECD, she was a Professor at the School of Economics and Management at the University of Minho and a senior researcher at the Centre for Research on Higher Education Policies in Portugal. She holds a PhD in Industrial and Business Studies from Warwick Business School.

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Required for Conference Participation

Travelers from countries that do not require a visa for entry to the UK—including all EU member states—will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in addition to a valid passport for entry into the UK starting in 2025. As of January 8, 2025, this will initially apply to non-EU citizens, with travelers from EU countries required to obtain the ETA starting on April 2, 2025.

The ETA application must be completed online, where personal information will be entered, and questions regarding the trip will need to be answered. A processing fee of approximately £10 (about €11.85) will be charged, which must be paid via credit card. Processing of the application is expected to take up to 72 hours, and the approval will be sent by email.
