UKCGE: 5th International Conference on Developments in Doctoral Education & Training

Promoting Positive Research Cultures –

“Research cultures” commonly receives poor feedback from doctoral candidates – notably in the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) – in particular from potentially isolated communities in higher education, such as those from ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ orientation, mature entrants, part-time and distance candidates as well as other groups. Some supervisors also think research cultures are unsatisfactory. Respondents to the UKCGE’s UK Research Supervision Survey (UKRSS) suggested that the following could be improved at their institution: less than optimum work/life balance as a result of demanding workload or competing priorities; lack of institutional support; and more training and emphasis needed on increasing diversity.

Due to the restrictions and uncertainty caused by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, all conference sessions will take place online between the 5th & 8th April 2022.

The event is finished.
